Dont worry about it. The red parts in the inside anyway. My wedding colors are black and white and red and our fillings are black and white cake and strawberry…. haha. We totally did not plan to coordinate, it just happened to be the 2 flavors we liked. Anyways, Im probably the only person who has ever matched their colors to the cake. No worries. Just make sure whatever decor you have ( flowers, toppers etc) fit your theme. Cream cheese frosting can be dyed white so you should be fine.

You are so lucky…my fiance HATES red velvet so that was not an option for us. Good luck!!!

Not at all. The red velvet part is on the inside. What your guests will be able to see if the color of the frosting and the decorations on the outside, which you can coordinate with your wedding colors. Have fun!

I had the same problem! I don’t think the cake itself has to match your colors, but it is probably important if the icing/external decoration incorporates (or goes with) some aspect of your color scheme, setting, or personalities.

Here’s our experience–maybe it will help you out:

First, don’t have them dye the cake any other color without testing it first! Something happens when the chocolate mixes with the dye and it seems that red is the only color that overpowers the chocolate. We asked the baker about doing “blue velvet” (my bridesmaid dresses are cobalt blue), and she couldn’t get it to work; she tried 3 or 4 different kinds of blue dye, but they all ended up looking swampy and green! We called it “Everglade Velvet!”

Our ceremony and reception will be in a lush garden with lots of different colored flowers, so there’s a lot of color going on. We ultimately decided to go with cupcakes. We are having four different flavors: red velvet, vanilla, and cheesecake (with blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries on top), and a fudgy, chocolate ganashe.

Our baker was really sweet. She cooked a few samples of each and we put them together on a cake plate. It all looked really nice and festive; it sort of mirrors the garden atmosphere, but isn’t too matchy-matchy. Plus, everyone should find a flavor they like!
