How to Select a Wedding Cake Topper

by Joshua Ryan

One of the more popular and important aspects of the right wedding cake is the cake topper.  I’ve seen couples take several months in choosing the right kind of cake topper they would like on their lovely wedding cake and yet others just know specifically what they like and just go for it.   The point is that it’s ultimately your choice and it should exemplify the wedding theme, the sentiments you and your spouse-to-be feel are important for the day, and a flair of personal style.  Let’s examine a few options.

A largely traditional wedding cake topper reflects a classic wedding couple standing together poised for the altar, dressed to kill and smiling.  These are often full-color and usually depict the bride and groom both ethnically and in wedding clothing.  It’s not too hard to find a custom cake topper made to resemble the wedding couple, hair styles and all.  This sort of personalization can add a nice individual touch to the wedding cake.

A second option is the more elegant, classy cake topper which is stylized and designed to be artistic and tasteful.  There are those that are all white, while some are a mixture of colors but either way, they are usually fancier than just two small figures perched together.  They can take the form of a sweeping dance pose, in which the figures are drawn together by a swirl at the base or they might rely more on a shape, like a heart, than on the people figurines themselves.  These cake toppers are lovely choices and add a sense of class and taste to the wedding cake presentation.

Several good-humored couples go with a humorous cake topper selection, often riffing on classic Western stereotypes like a determined Bride dragging an uneasy Groom to the altar or a Fisherman Groom reeling in his Bride with his fishing line.  These have the ability to evoke a good chuckle from the Reception guests and offer them a sample of the couple’s personal sense of humor.  For couples who enjoy a good laugh and want their wedding to reflect fun and laughter, a humorous cake topper can be the most appropriate option.

There are numerous wedding cake toppers out there from Hollywood red carpet figures to non-human figurines like deer or cars.  Your cake topper is supposed to reflect the feel and theme of your personalized wedding day as well as your individual tastes and style.

How can I make a fake (real-looking) wedding cake?

by remodellearner

We want to serve slices from Costco sheet cakes (yuuum, and the price is right!) but want a pretty looking cake with a real top tier for us to cut into. The decorative cake would be just that, but it should look edible on the outside. Can I use purchased/homemade fondant to cover either boxes or cake pans? This is ideally to save $$, so if fondant is super expensive, what else could be used?
I like the styrofoam idea – where could I get the styrofoam “cake layers?” Thanks for the help!

Unique Chocolate Wedding Favors That Everyone Will Love

by Linda Ellison

There are many reasons why a bride might choose chocolate wedding favors for her reception. They’re typically very affordable, come in a wide variety of flavors, look beautiful and festive, and let’s face it, who doesn’t love chocolate?

But wanting to have chocolate wedding favors for your reception can leave you scratching your head as to what you should actually choose, and how chocolates can be presented at your reception in a beautiful and appropriate manner.

Choosing these favors will depend on many things, but probably your budget more than anything. There’s no limit to the amount of money you can spend on designer bonbons and truffles and other gourmet items, so it’s a good idea to have an actual budget in mind before you even begin shopping around.

You might also want to give some consideration to the theme and tone of your wedding and reception. Is it a very formal affair in an elegant banquet hall or a more casual party? If it’s formal and traditional, then typically you want chocolates that are just as elegant and indulgent. Most chocolate makers have packages that they make up just for weddings, usually a small collection of bonbons or truffles that comes in beautiful boxes. They may be decorated like little tuxedos and wedding gowns. They may be heart-shaped and hand decorated with your names or initials. Some may offer just one very exquisite or decadent chocolate in its own mini tray or foil, and be wrapped with a bit of tulle and ribbon.

Other small treats may be a few chocolates stacked on top of each other to resemble a wedding cake, again, in its own mini tray and ribbon or a small clear box. There are also chocolates in the shape of a letter which is usually in a clear plastic bag and tied with an elegant ribbon.

However, if your reception is more casual then your options can include treats such as chocolate covered pretzels in a small box. If you’re both sports loves, there are chocolates shaped like golf balls, soccer balls, bowling balls, volleyballs, baseballs, and virtually any other sporting ball you can think of.

For those who love casinos or who are planning a Vegas-themed wedding, some chocolate wedding favors are shaped like large dice or like poker chips.

For beach wedding favors, you can find chocolates in the shape of seashells. Some bakers can offer to make just plain squares of chocolate that are stamped with your name or initial.

When opting for chocolate wedding favors such as these, be sure to dress them up with a personal touch. If the box they come in is rather plain, wrap it in beautiful wrapping paper and large ribbon from either your paper supply or fabric store, in a color that matches your reception’s theme.

And of course a very affordable and unique option for chocolate wedding favors is personalized candy bar wrappers, which usually come in a wide variety of designs and styles. These can match your wedding’s tone, whether elegant and traditional or fun and whimsical, and can also provide a nice keepsake for an album or scrapbook.

As more and more chocolate makers realize the popularity and versatility of chocolate wedding favors, you may see that you as a bride have more and more options available to you when it comes time to choosing just the right chocolate favors for your reception.

How do I get instructions on making a wedding cake?

I need some instructions on making and decorating my own wedding cake.

Fondant vs. Buttercream?

by Sarah

For our wedding we are going for a classic square 4 layer white cake seperated by pink, yellow, and white roses with a lace and pearl design. My question is- if it were you would you go for fondant of buttercream. I’m not always very fond of the fondant unless the cake is very elaborate, although I do like the smooth look of it.

Also, if you have any photos of your own wedding cake or cakes that you like please post them, I’d love to see some alternative ideas. Thank you!
I should probably add that we have already consulted with our cake designer and tasted both. Both ways can be done and fit into our budget, so it’s just a matter of choosing one. If it helps to imagine it, each layer is a different flavor, the bottom is spice, the next two are chocolate with rasberry filling and white with lemon filling, and the top is red velvet. Thanks for all the help!

Cakes For Las Vegas Weddings

by Natasha Young

Cakes for Las Vegas weddings can be as distinguished as the bride and groom themselves. The cake can be considered one of the most important parts of a Las Vegas wedding. It is important to research cakes and refreshments before deciding on your cake décor and your cake vendor. Here are some ideas and information on cakes for Las Vegas weddings.

The Bride’s Cake

It is fairly popular for the couple who are engaged to shove the cake in each other’s faces, rather than eating it. It is usually a large cake, multi-layered or tiered, and heavily decorated with icing, occasionally over a layer of marzipan or fondant, topped with a small statue representing the couple. Wedding package cake toppers are small models that sit on top of the cake, normally a representation of a bride groom in formal ceremony attire. They can be decorated with flowers or with chocolate which has been molded or modeled into different shapes.

Cake Decor for Las Vegas weddings

A few people put live flowers on their cakes. A length of tulle loosely billowed on the top of the table gives the impression of your cake floating on clouds. A lace tablecloth would be lovely draped across the cake table. Decorating the cake table needn’t be time consuming nor expensive.

Cake History

Barley bread eventually evolved into today’s ceremony cake. During the Roman Empire, they used barley bread instead of the sweet cake we can discern today. Back in the day, Barley bread was broken over the bride’s head to symbolize her fertility. Back in the day, Barley bread was broken over the bride’s head to symbolize her fertility.

If you use floral decor on your cake, knowing the meaning of the flowers can be twice as fun. Here are some floral meanings. Use Gardenias to convey joy. Blue Violet inspires faithfulness. The Iris is a symbol of wisdom. Orange blossoms symbolize purity and fertility.

Along with your cake, here is a sprinkling of general food and beverage ideas. If you prefer a customized beautiful wedding day favor, you can choose food and beverages that have your names and wedding ceremony date on them. Candy bars, individual bags of coffee and tea, and other food items can have your custom information printed on the wrappers. You can select from an assortment of flavors so that picky eaters will be able to locate something they like. Refreshment Ideas

A chocolate fountain with strawberries, marshmallow and other desserts is quite popular. Iced cookies, brownies and mini bite-sized cheesecakes are various desserts used for refreshments.

Elementary refreshment ideas can be refreshing for guests. If you choose messy refreshments, make sure you include utensils and plenty of napkins.

Contracting a Vendor

Make sure the contract is clear. Read several reviews about the cake vendor and you can even go as far as asking the vendor for customer referrals.

Wedding Cakes – Texture Taste And Terror

by Daisy May

A guarantee to put a smile on the face of all your guests attending the wedding is when they are handed a slice of wedding cake also a few pounds in weight if not careful.
Wedding cakes will always hold second place to the bride in looking glamorous on this occasion. But as beautiful as the bride may be it is the cake we will be sinking our teeth into.

Wedding cakes are a major issue when piecing together your wedding plans. Cake type and flavours will be of your own choosing. Grand or simple from one tier two tier 3 4 5 if you want. This is your wedding cake so you get to decide. One very important thing you have to remember more tiers can lead to more tears if your budget is tight and you can not afford the cake you had your heart set on. Well let me let you in on a little secret which is, simple is just as tasty and pretty as eye candy. There is no difference in the cake that stands tall. This is about taste, so the simple round mound and the replica of the empire state building will both taste exactly the same. There is just one thing dont expect second helpings of the simple choice.

The wedding cake is finely detailed by the confectioner just like a creator at work on a piece of canvas. The works that goes behind the making of a wedding cake is not as simple as it may look especially when it comes to decorating and adding decorations. Heaven forbid should you try to pipe cream a wedding cake with the shakes.

Time is such an essential factor when ordering your wedding cake. It would be wise to talk with the bakery doing the catering to find out the best time to place the order. Your cake baker will know precisely how long it will take to make after you have given him/her the details on what design style flavour and ingredients. Be sure to ask how much it will cost because every little added extra to your wedding cake comes with a price.

If you are planning to wed in a flower garden or on the hot sun kissed beaches of Benidorm then let the confectioner know. If the baker has all this information under his hat he will attend to the needs of the wedding cake in a professional and sensible manner where he/she will deliver and place the cake in a suitable place. In other words they will protect it from the climate or weather conditions on the day.

There are some really fabulous books out there to help you with ideas on how to decorate your own cake; this is a great option if money is tight. All you need to do is order a plain wedding cake and take it from there. If you are terrified of botching it up dont fret, nip along to the baker and he will finish the job. Try it you really have nothing to lose but a little time. So what are you waiting for go save the pennies to put towards that going away outfit.

Wedding Cakes – Watch, Rejoice and Taste

by Daniel Hudson

The cake cutting moment is the most important time in a marriage ceremony. Everybody watches the proceedings as a rapt spectator and waits for the final moment when the wedding cake is to be cut by the bride and the groom. And finally when the happy moment comes, everybody rejoices and wishes the couple with clapping and cheers. Next, they taste the lip-smacking cake and get absorbed in the party.

So, the wedding cake in a marriage ceremony holds extra importance. It is something to be watched, rejoiced and tasted. That is why it is necessary that the cake is aesthetically beautiful, delicious in taste and designed in sync with the image of the couple. Thankfully, the cake market is so extended and enlarged that getting a cake of ones personal choice is no more a big deal. In this age of unprecedented consumerism, there is no dearth of preferable wedding cakes.

A brief trip to the market will present before one a plethora of options in wedding cakes. One can choose from the delicious range of cakes fillings that include chocolate, lemon drizzle, toffee, maderia sponge, and carrot and fruit cakes. You will also have delicious category of cakes with creamy centres, ranging from white Belgian chocolate ganache to Bailey’s cream and, of course, butter cream for the maderia sponge.

If anybody wants, he can order a wedding cake from among the collections already there in the gallery. Or, if he wants, he can get the cake designed specifically to meet his requirements. Since the size and shape of cakes is generally determined by the number of guests and the individual choice of the groom, a readymade cake may not serve the purpose.
